Plopsaland sets sail for the new Pirates’ Grill

With the Pirates’ Grill, Plopsaland is opening its very first immersive restaurant. In the new restaurant, visitors are transported into a true pirate world, with table service by a real seafaring crew and hearty grilled dishes prepared around the central open grill: the beating heart of the restaurant.

The Pirates’ Grill has been more than 3.5 years in the making. Construction took just under a year and represents an investment of 3 million euros. The restaurant focuses strongly on theming and experience, with every detail carefully considered: from the first welcome to the moment guests leave.

The menu consists of accessible grilled dishes for the whole family, including chicken, ribs, brochettes, baked potatoes, potato coins, entrecôte and prawns, complemented by vegetarian alternatives. Everything fits within a clear family dining concept, where sharing and enjoying food together take centre stage. For the development of the kitchen, Plopsa called on Sam D’Huyvetter, known from Bar Bask and cooking channel njam, and specialised in wood-fire grilling. Together with a permanent team that was specially trained for this concept, he developed a high-quality and accessible menu.

The Pirates’ Grill is currently accessible by reservation. In a next phase, the restaurant will also open in the evenings for resort guests and, from next year, for visitors to Plopsaland Plaza: the new experience square featuring, among other things, the Flying Cinema, a Grand Café and a bowling alley.

With the Pirates’ Grill, we did not want to build a classic theme park restaurant, but a place where families truly come on board together in a complete experience,” says Koen Keijsers, Chief In-Park Sales Officer of the Plopsa Group. “Everything was designed around the idea of experiencing something together: the setting, the service, the dishes and the central grill, which adds both energy and atmosphere. This is hospitality and experience as they are meant to be, and the result is something we can be proud of.”

Carl Lenaerts, CEO of the Plopsa Group, is also proud of the opening. “Experience is at the heart of everything we do at Plopsaland. With the Pirates’ Grill, we are now extending that philosophy to the culinary experience. Our team has worked intensively for months to create a concept that truly brings families together around the table.”
